Add commercial context to your advice

What is the develop commerciality programme?

One of the biggest complaints with professional advisors is that they are not commercial enough. Great at technical advice, but fail to give an opinion on the bigger picture. But how do you give commercial advice if you’ve never worked in their sector or run a business?

The answer: our develop commerciality programme. The curriculum involves sector by sector briefings which will give you the vocabulary and the knowledge to enable you to engage with clients at a business-issue level.

The curriculum is divided into two parts: the sector specials and the back-to-basics business sessions. The ‘sector specials’ sessions cover the key issues facing the sector, the key players in it and the current trends in the sector. There’s also a jargon buster session and a Q&A session with a sector expert. Our back-to-basics business sessions cover the basics of setting up and running a business in the sector, including insight into what the different functions do and how the business works.

At the end of the ‘develop commerciality’ course you will be able to engage with your clients on their level.

Why Berwick Gilbey?

  • Expert input: You have a unique chance to question an expert from the sector in a learning environment.

Who is it for?

  • The develop commerciality curriculum is aimed at associate level, to equip them with the knowledge and insight that is normally accrued over many years.
  • The curriculum can also be adapted for a senior audience of partners, heads of sectors, relationship managers and marketing directors. This is particularly relevant when the firm is considering entering new sectors and wishes to ‘get up to speed’ on the hottest sector issues quickly.
